🔍 bargain hunting

why the cheap SEO option is never the best option

I classify myself as a collector. I own a bunch of sports cards, Pokémon stuff, and recently NFTs.

What that means is that essentially I collect a bunch of junk until its worthless. Then, I either donate it or hoard it in my garage.

I don’t know why I’m telling you this.

But I was thinking about it this week when someone was complaining to me about the cost of digital marketing freelancers.

Here’s the thing - you get what you pay for.

It’s an adage because it’s true.

It’s not that a low price point means that a SEO freelancer will necessarily do a bad job. In fact, they might be quite good.

However, there’s a 100% chance they are early to the game if they are charging bargain barrel rates.

That’s because an experienced digital marketer knows their worth a bit more. They know to actually do the work right in a quick timeframe, they’ll have to charge a lot.

To catch a good marketer at a cheap rate is extremely rare. If you have that relationship, thank your lucky stars.

But trust me…you won’t have them for long. I can guarantee they’re going to come to you with a new rate come next contract.

Collectors and bargain hunters are all the same.

When they go on Upwork or Fiverr to find a freelancer, they sort by price.

I know this, because I am one.

The same is true for me and digital marketing tools I’ve used over the years.

Instead of splurging for Semrush, I went and bought Ubersuggest.
Instead of getting Yoast SEO premium, I went for Squirrly SEO.

These aren’t necessarily bad options, but I do wonder what I could have done for my clients with the more top-of-the-line services instead of the bargain ones.

You might be wondering the same thing about your SEO right now.

Sure, you pay that guy you found on Craigslist $50/month, but what if you paid a real professional $100/month or better yet even $1000/month?

What could that do for your business? My bet? Way more than they’re charging!

I’m not saying always go with the most expensive option. You are of course wanting quality. We all are.

But I am saying, you might have to push yourself out of your comfort zone a little. You might have to pay a high sticker price to get the service and more importantly, the results that you want.

Just know that I’m here with you to take that step into the unknown.

As a lifelong bargain hunter and collector, I don’t want you to be stuck with a bunch of junk in garage like me. I want you to have the best business possible, with no excess. And that means paying a little bit more next time.

You can either good money to get good results for your business, or you can pay crap money to get crap work.

It’s up to you!
