What’s stopping you?

Distraction

Sometimes, I open a blank Google doc and just stare.

Other times, I log into WordPress and just stare.

Most of the time, I open up an app on my phone and just stare.

Does this sound familiar? Is this you too?

If not, feel free to stop reading. You clearly have this modern life thing figured out.

But for me these days, it feels like my brain cannot focus on anything for more than a few minutes.

I type this newsletter for a few minutes and then I pick up my phone to see if I missed anything that happened in the last few seconds.

Sometimes, I lock it away. I put my phone out of my reach only to find myself distracted by something else on the Internet.

I’m focused on my goals for growing my business, but I’m unfortunately distracted by all the other information I’m inundated with.

I can’t focus on the content I want to create when there’s a new trend and new meme poppin’ up every hour that I need to capitalize on.

The world moves fast around us, and we are passengers on a train trying to decipher the details of our surroundings as the train whips through the station…

Fear

Every time I post a video or a blog, I’m worried there will be backlash for something I said or wrote about.

Often, there is zero response instead.

Other than my attention spans, the other thing stopping me from starting from going all-in on my business is fear.

I’m worried about being cringey, offending people, or being wrong about something.

I fear that I’m wasting my time with this new blog post or creating TikTok videos.

I’m worried that I’m letting down the people that look up to me in my life by pursuing my business.

In actuality, I don’t think this many people are thinking about me at all…

No Consistency

The most important thing in SEO is consistency. You have to be writing, putting out and updating content constantly. If you aren’t, you’re falling behind.

It’s the same with social media. A stagnant account means stagnant growth.

I feel this need to be more consistent. To have a content calendar. To have a morning routine.

Consistency in the modern world seems necessary in order to learn from mistakes and to ultimately grow.

You can’t have a good day, unless you’ve had your cold plunge, your meditation time, and your morning exercise, right?

But who has time for all this? Who has time to be consistent when life is anything but?

I can’t stick to a commitment I made 1 week ago. You’re lucky I’m still writing this newsletter even!

But I’ve learned that doing something small consistently is better than not doing it all. I started writing for 5 minutes a day. That has grown to be longer periods of time.

Consistency is how you define it…not how others do.

Conclusion?

And that’s true of all these points. You don’t have to be in a flow state 24/7.

You’re allowed to be distracted.

You are making up more in your head than is actually.

You don’t need to be perfect, because you’re not a robot.

Don’t beat yourself up like I just have.

Today, just defeat one of these stopping you from starting your business or writing your book, or finding that new job.

And be proud that you accomplished literally anything today. That’s a feat in itself. You just got out of bed and made one step further in making your dream a reality.

Plus, it’s pretty much the weekend already anyway. That’ll do.
